subtract and simplfy 29/18 - 5/6
How did I show how to do this? ;)
These two fractions do not have the same denominators (lower numbers), so we must first find a common denominator of the two fractions, before subtracting them. For the denominators here, the 18 and 6, a common denominator for both is 18. With the common denominator, the 29/18 becomes a 29/18 and the 5/6 becomes a15/18 So now our subtraction problem becomes this... Since these two fractions have the same denominators (the numbers under the fraction bar), we can subtract them by simply subtracting the numerators (the 29 - 15 = 14), while keeping the same denominator (the 18). Our answer here is:14/18 The fraction14/18 is not reduced to lowest terms. We can reduce this fraction to lowest terms by dividing both the numerator and denominator by 2. Why divide by 2? 2 is the Greatest Common Divisor (GCD) or Greatest Common Factor (GCF) of the numbers 14 and 18. So, this fraction reduced to lowest terms is 7/9
