OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you walk me through how to solve this question? 1/ (2- srt(11)) ***srt means square root because i don't know how to write the radical***

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There isn't anything to solve because there is no variable and no equals sign, and it is already simplified, so the best you can do to make it look nicer is to rationalized the denominator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok how do i do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know what a 'conjugate' is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To rationalize, you multiply the top and bottom by the conjugate of the denominator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i would multiply the top and bottom by 2+srt(11)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's the way, yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That will get the square root on the bottom to cancel out leaving a rational number in the denominator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this the answer??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hard to read... Is that \[\large -\frac{2+\sqrt{11}}{7}?\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is correct then. Good job!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much
