Factor: 4x2 + 8xy - 3x - 6y Which of the following is one of the factors? (x – y) (x + 3) (4x – 3) prime

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[4x ^{2}-8xy-3x+6xy\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This requires a nice trick called Simon's Favorite Factoring Trick (SFFT): \[ \Large {4x^2 + 8xy - 3x - 6y = 4x(x+2y) - 3(x+2y) = (4x-3)(x+2y),} \] so 4x-3 is a factor. Do you see how that works?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think so. let me study it for a moment

Sure! Let me know if you have questions. :)

k thanks i see how 4x-3 is a factor

No problem! :) Want to give me a medal? =P
