The Volume "v" of a cone equals 1/3 times the product of (pie) 3.14, the square of the radius "r" of the base, and the height "h". Find the volume of a cone if r is 10cm and h is 30 cm. Please help...

OpenStudy (ny,ny):

\[v=\frac{ 1 }{ 3 } \Pi r ^{2} \]

OpenStudy (ny,ny):

so just substitute the radius and the height and then simplify =)

OpenStudy (ny,ny):

do yu know what to do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im so sorry but i dont. Like what do i do with the height how do i substitute the the radius and height?

OpenStudy (ny,ny):

sure i can help :D v= volume, r= radius, h= height. they give you the radius and height and tell you to find the volume. v=13Πr2h v=13Π(10)squared (30)

OpenStudy (ny,ny):

mistake! its 1/3 not 13

OpenStudy (ny,ny):

\[v=\frac{ 1 }{ 3 }\Pi r ^{2} h\] \[v=\frac{ 1 }{ 3 }\Pi (10) ^{2}(30)\]

OpenStudy (ny,ny):

i substituted.

OpenStudy (ny,ny):

do you think you can simplify?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah but then i start to think how tricky algebra gets then im not sure again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

v=3140

OpenStudy (anonymous):

am i right?

OpenStudy (ny,ny):

ok... \[v=\frac{ 1 }{ 3 }\Pi10^{2}(30)\] \[v=\frac{ 1 }{ 3 }\Pi 100 (30)\] \[v=1.047\times100(30)\] \[v=1.047\times3000\] \[v=3141\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok thank you so much. I really appreciate it.

OpenStudy (ny,ny):

sure :D
