I need help in debating

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What exactly do you need? Confused.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, you could argue that having given the death penalty does solve the problem it doesn't get rid of the problem, it doesn't teach the a lesson. Correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks :) and this cmnt doesnt really make sense right ^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol. Your welcome. Anytime. Just let me know.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Most presidential democracy does not. For example (No hate) Obama has said he will increase jobs. Which is partially true, but we are not out of unemployment. You could talk about the promises you intend to make, make them realistic don't go to far with your imagination. Make sure you stay "professional" Even though this isn't a real election, you need to make sure you have responses to any questions they might have. Make sure you have reasons behind reasons, not like a history report but enough to prove your statement and or remarks on this is complete and true. Hope this helps a little!

okay thanks! :)

If you are looking for arguments to argue against the death penalty, then that strongly suggests your own opposition is not rooted in any rational argument, but rather proceeds from some visceral instinctive feeling. So I think rather than try to paste someone else's arguments onto your feeling, you should own your feelings, be honest about things, and make the case from your heart. So you hate the idea of the death penalty. It turns your stomach, say. Enlarge on that. How exactly does it make you feel? Now do you think it makes other people feel that way? How do the people who support the death penalty feel? (And you cannot, if you expect to be taken seriously, just say they're all inhuman monsters who feel strange and terrible things. You must genuinely put yourself in their shoes to win the argument, because you are arguing, by definition, with people who can sympathize with both you and your opponents.) Go further. Is gut feeling useless in government? You would want to say no. Well, why not? In what way can gut feeling be superior to rational arguments? Maybe not all of the time - but maybe sometime. How could you tell when? What happens if we ignore these gut feelings? Suppose we, as a society, do something that disgusts most of us? Does that not have an effect? What kind of effect? In short, rather than try to disguise your emotional distaste with the borrowed thoughts of others, why not try to make the case that your emotional distaste is itself a good and sufficient reason for your position?
