Which ordered pair is a solution of the inequality?y > or = 4x- 5 A. (3, 4) B. (2, 1) C. (3, 0) D. (1, 1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You might just want to try each point, plug the x and y values in, and see if the left side (the "y") is greater than or equal to the right side. You just have to try the points out, one by one...

@JakeV8 how do i try tohe points

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For example, try (3,4)... For: y >= 4x- 5 with point (3,4)... 4 >= 4(3) -5 then simplify: 4 >= 4(3) -5 4 >= 12 - 5 4 >= 7 <<<------- OOOPS... that's not right, so (3,4) is not a solution of the inequality. Then repeat that process for the other 3 ordered pairs... one of those will work :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@JakeV8 c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess no ones going to tell me if im right or wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, ease up, my browser stopped, then my laptop stopped, so I restarted. if answer (c) is right... answer (c) is (3,0), so x = 3, and y = 0... the inequality is: y >= 4x- 5 so with point (3,0), it would be: 0 > 4(3) - 5 0 > 12 - 5 0 > 7 But... this is not correct... 0 is not greater than 7, so point (3,0) is not a solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok then i dont know what to do im more lost then i was when i posted this question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's ok, don't panic :) you just need to sub in the values of x and y for each ordered pair... plug them into the inequality in place of the x and y values shown... then see if it's still true. if you get like 3 < 1, then it is obviously not true, so that ordered pair is NOT a solution. It's just a matter of trying each pair through the inequality... put the pair in and see if it is still true. If so, that's the answer... if not, then try the next one.

:( im just going to guess im sorry but ive been doing math for 8 hrs now and im very fustrated

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey, no worries... I know that feeling. you want to try each one? I'll help...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess on my last 8 questions boomed my test got a 55

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y >= 4x- 5 A. (3, 4) -->> 4 >= 4(3) - 5 -->> 4 >= 12-5 -->> 4 >= 7 WRONG B. (2, 1) -->> 1 >= 4(2) - 5 -->> 1 >= 8-5 -->> 1 >= 3 WRONG C. (3, 0) -->> 0 >= 4(3) - 5 -->> 0 >= 12-5 -->> 0 >= 7 WRONG D. (1, 1) -->> 1 >= 4(1) - 5 -->> 1 >= 4-5 -->> 4 >= -1 CORRECT

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha i guessed that one right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you just try each one... you can do it :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

don't just guess... you can learn it... just keep working through it. It isn't easy, I know... but anyone can learn it if you work at it... and this site is a great place to try it out... good helpers will work through it with you ;)
