In a well-written paragraph, explain whether you believe the Electoral College should be abolished. Make sure to justify your position with at least three reasons.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Arguments against the electoral college are that it doesn't reflect the voters accurately and that it doesn't allow for a minority Pres Arguments for it are that it is stable and keeps the 2 party system going and that it is better for small states as well as provides more of a majority winner

oh alright i understand what your saying and more of the assignment. Thank you soooo much x3 such great help.

It's not the Electoral College that prevents a minority-elected President; that's a result of the two-party system. If anything, the Electoral College *allows* for a minority of the popular vote to elect a president—look at George W. Bush in 2000. My arguments against the EC would be that it's undemocratic and it gives swing states way too much power. A Democrat in Oklahoma and a Republican in Hawaii both have little reason to vote, as their state results are largely pre-determined. As caligirl123 said, it definitely favours states with lower populations. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:State_population_per_electoral_vote.png Sandy gives us a great example of how the EC can be good: since we can expect very low turnout as a result of the weather, the EC can represent the state as we would expect it to have voted.
