please help, step by step, and explain :) y=(3x^(6)-4cot(x))^(9)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know I use the chain rule because it's a function inside another function.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be 9(3x^6-4cot(x))^8 times the derivative of each of the inside functions the first one is 18x^5 the second one is....idk the derivative of cot...hold on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its -csc^2 so the entire thing would be 9(3x^6-4cot(x))^8 times 18x^5 times csc^2(x) (note that the derivative of cot is -csc^2 so the derivative of -cot is +csc^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wouldnt it be 18x^5+4csc^2(x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Chain Rule

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yea, it would be

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see, you understand it more than me ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahaha! No, I'm finally understanding lol.. I just didnt know the derivative of cot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i didnt either...never use it but i make mistakes too...good thing u caught that one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:) thank you though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

welcome :)
