can someone explain to me solving innequalities useing addition or subtraction using these problems. v-6<4 q+0.5>-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Using the first inequality as an example, you need to isolate the variable. On the left side, you have "v" and "-6" (adding a negative 6"), so you have 2 terms. You have to remove the "-6" from the left, so ADD 6 to BOTH sides. Adding or subtracting the same quantity from both sides will preserve the inequality. Works for equalitites, too. So, add 6 to each side and see what you get.

v<10?

Very good!

oh yay thank you thats the first time ive understood that.

With the second inequality you would use subtraction, and perhaps you can determine what to subtract from both sides.

It's way cool when the light bulb goes on! Great feeling, very happy for you!

Here's a little hint: q + 0.5 > -2 -> (q + 0.5) - (some specific #) > -2 - (the same some specific #)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

q>-2.5

Most Excellent!
