As we all know, starting papers can be the most difficult part of writing an essay. What would be a good thesis statement for an essay comparing and contrasting Sonnets 29 and 30 by Shakespeare? I should be comparing the literary devices to show how they impact the reader and contributes to the meaning of the sonnet.
So write the paper backward. Write all the bits that interest you, and then stand back and take a look at it, ask yourself what your thesis turned out to be. Write what you feel. Be yourself, not fancy. Gee, maybe Shakespeare's literary devices left you completely cold and made you long to get back to some vampire novel -- that could be your thesis statement! Shakespeare has a hard time in the modern world, because this and such device just fall completely flat, because of this and such. Now, on the other hand, I do realize what he was trying to do....and this is why it doesn't work in 2012....
