What is the slope of the line shown in this graph?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

consider the interval (-6,0) to (-1,4) how much does the line rise for ever unit it goes across?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Choose 2 points say (-6,0) (-1,4) then use the slope formula, m (Slope)=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

@AriPotta HELP ME!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Slope = (4-0)/(-1--6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

slope = 4/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to find the slope you do \({y_2−y_1}\over{x_2−x_1}\) [where \((x_1 ,y_1)\) and \((x_2, y_2)\)]...so lets say you have points \((a,b)\) and \((c,d)\), you would do \({d−b}\over{c−a}\) and the result would be your slope...now lets try your given points: so choose the two points provided on your graph (4,8) and (-1,4): \[{y_2−y_1}\over{x_2−x_1}\]plug in the values into the formula:\[{4−8}\over{-1−4}\]subtract:\[-4\over-5\]the negatives cancel out and you are left with \[\large\text{slope = \(4\over5\)}\] hope this helps! :)
