Find the exact value. tan-1(-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-45 is principal value:) -45+180n where n is a natural no is a general value:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't get it..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer in my book says -pi/4.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@AmberBamber -pi/4 is in radians and 45 is in degrees nothing more than this pi radians=180 degree:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol, I have absolutely no clue what I am doing, whatsoever. I'm so sorry, but I'm so lost.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no prob did u get the general value concept????????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not at all.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do u want to know or let it leave :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If it is necessary to do these problems, I would love to know. Lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i like ur spirit now answer my questions then r u ready???????????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now do you know about tan x???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know that I learned it, but I don't think I remember anything about it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tan x is periodic function of pi i.e. it repeats its value after every pi...k:) now tan pi/4=??????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tan pi/4-= 1??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup:) and tan -pi/4=-1 tan (pi-pi/4)=tan3pi/4=??????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@AmberBamber

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hold on, let me do this really quick.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup it means that after every pi it repeats its value so i can write that tan(n*pi-pi/4)=-1 for all values of n???????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@AmberBamber now what is actually tan^-1x means????????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

... I'm not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any inverse function means that if f(a)=y then it means the value of f(x) at a is y f^-1(y)=a because it means at what value of x we get y as result that is a so here tan^-1x is a function which is just opposite of tanx you put the value of x in tanx and get a result now if this result is put into tan^-1x you will get the value x k got it??????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@AmberBamber ???????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@AmberBamber
