Subtract the 29 to the right side:
6x=-24
Divide by the 6 to get x by itself:
x=-4
Simple Algebra

@natalie135
how would you know which place to start like in the probelm above you started with 29 not 6 how did you know which one to do
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Start by getting the X on the side by itself, so that you can solve for it.

what if there is two variables
OpenStudy (anonymous):
like im trying to solve –21a + 16a
OpenStudy (anonymous):
You just add the two together, since it is like saying there are:
-21a's and 16a's so the total number of a's is -5.
So that answer to that is -5a.
Making sense?
