@jim_thompson5910 can you help me plz?
OpenStudy (zarkon):
are you using the median in your definition of absolute deviation
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i don't know. it only says this:
Find the mean absolute deviation of the data. Round to the nearest hundredth if necessary.
it doesn't say anything about the median.
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
First find the mean
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
You do this by adding up all the numbers and then dividing by 6 (since there are 6 numbers)

yeah? then what do I do?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
then you subtract each value from the mean (in any order it doesn't matter because we're going to be making each difference positive)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
do i only right down one has an answer?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
or do i write them all down?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
what do you mean?

when i subtract the mean from all the values, for an answer to the question do i just put down one value i found or all the values i found?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
that leads up to the answer, but the differences aren't the answer
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh, ok. then what's the answer?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
what differences do you get
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i get:
1 2/3, 4 2/3, -5 1/3, 3 2/3, -9 1/3, 4 2/3

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
make each difference positive
so the list becomes
1 2/3, 4 2/3, 5 1/3, 3 2/3, 9 1/3, 4 2/3
Then add up these values
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Then i get the answer?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
not yet
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
what do you get when you add all that up
OpenStudy (anonymous):
3.267

no, remember that everything is now positive
OpenStudy (anonymous):
26 10/3?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
or 29 and 1/3
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
now divide this result by 6 to get your final answer
OpenStudy (anonymous):
THanks man You've been a great help
