MATH TEST TOMMOROW GRADE 9 PLEASE HELP MEE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll be glad to help you. Don't stress over your test. You have plenty of time to practice. Ask me anything.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you a cylinder has a Surface area of 1017.9cm what is its volume??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, I'm trying to figure it out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2pi*radius*height is the surface area and Pi*pi*radius * height is volume

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The basic formula for finding the volume of a cylinder is (pi)(r^2)(h).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how do i find volume given the surface area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the entire question that is on your worksheet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does it have a diagram or anything?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no diagram

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, to find the surface area of a cylinder, you do 2(pi)(r^2) + 2(pi)(r)(h).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know that nvm no help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im screwed for test tmmrw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know the height?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That question is impossible, since you don't know the height. That's ridiculous.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am sending you a link..read the question..its similar to your question http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080521212740AALF1ki

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no its not lol my teacher did it on the board today i just forgot how he did it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what u do here is find the max possible volume

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Aha! You have to do substitution. I'll walk you through it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep substitution...just dont forget that the can is closed not open

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is the surface area 1017.9 *squared* centimeters?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1017.9 is 324*pi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and are u sure u are talking about surface area..your question said 1017.9CM....if it is surface area it is supposed to be CM square

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I think it is supposed to be 1017.9 cm^2, but the question is impossible. You need to know either the height or the radius.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i feel it is the perimeter ..which is 2pi*radius + 2h..but again...you have none of the terms...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exactly. Something seems odd.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You could work backwards if you knew either the radius or the height, but you know none of that. Take a picture of the worksheet and show us. It's worth a try.
