If the point (-5,-12) is reflected across the x-axis and then across y-axis,then what are the coordinates of the resulting point ?

so basically take general points h and k, and find the foot of the perpendicular to the line... and then use the argument that the slopes of the line as the mirror and the line joining the 2 points are perpendicular, and you will get the answer...

(-5,-12) is in the third quadrant so its reflection along x axis will be in the second quadrant and that will be (-5,12) try finding its reflection now along the y axis, its just changing signs according to the quadrants, is that ok ?

so (-5.-12)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it will be (5,12) and in the first quadrant. here is a tip, for me reflection with x axis and y axis is same as finding the reflection with respect to the origin....
