explain why there are four different nucleotides in DNA and not five

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are G, C, A an T. As DNA is double stranded, there must always be one base pair which is complementary to another one. So G with C and A with T. If there were five different nucleotides, one would be without a pair. Hope this helps.
