help plzzzzz. simplify 3x over x^-1

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

3x over x^-1 is the same as 3x * x^1 and that turns into 3x^1 * x^1 To multiply the x terms, just add the exponents.

what about this problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(5x^3) ^2 (2x^7)..... this is how I did it, can you tell me if it's correct... (5*2) (x^3*^2*x^7)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no, the square that's sitting outside the (5x^3) applies to both the 5 and the x^3

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so (5x^3) ^2 is really (5^2) * (x^3)^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmmm ok so I will multiply

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok but what would I do after that, am confused
