A bookstore wants to determine how many books the people in the surrounding neighborhood read per month on average. They survey each customer who enters their store for one week. Identify any bias in this method. If appropriate, suggest a method more likely to produce a random sample.

Similar to the restaurant question, this is biased because you are approaching known book readers, and people who read a LOT. You have to get to the non-book-readers or seldom book-readers equally . So, a random approach is called for. You reach people out of the book environment by perhaps going up to people as they are walking on the street and best if not too close to the book store because some might just be walking to the book store!
