How to plot this graph x^2/(x-2)(x-6)

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Horizontal Asymptote: y = 1 -- Do you know why? Vertical Asymptote: x = 2 and x = 6 -- Do you know why? y-Intercept: (0,0) Everything goes up as you move from left to right. -- Do you know why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for y=1 is get from the long division right and x=2 and x=6 is getting from equation.. so how is the graph. how i know whether the graph is moving up >>>

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

y = 1 -- I suppose youcould do that long division. It's easier just to look at it. Degree of Numerator matches degree of denominator. The leading coefficients dicatate it. 1/1 = 1. Of course, this isthe same result as you would achieve bia long division. Vertical asymptotes from making the denominator zero and restricting the Domain. Not much you need after that, except a couple of points. You have (0,0). Find another, perhaps (1,1/5). That's about all you need if you know how to use warp speed to get across vertical asymptotes.
