If a reporter has done his or her research about a story, is there any need to include interviews with the public in a report? Yes, as long as the interviewees pay money to share their thoughts. Yes, because good interviews can add credibility to any news story. No, because interviews will always destroy credibility in a news story. No, unless the interviewees will agree to make a large donation.

Yes, because good interviews can add credibility to any news story. That makes the most sense. Saying that paying interviewees to share their thoughts is a requirement can impact the credibility of the interview itself and the credibility of the story. And interviews may not destroy credibility in a news story -- they might destroy an argument being made in the story, but still be a good part to add to the narrative being made.
