What are the steps that go into solving 4√(x) - x = 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since we never solve equations with roots, we take a substitution. \[y= \sqrt{x} \] so \[x= y^{2}\] so our new equation will be \[4y - y ^{2} = 4\] now you can sove this quadratic equation for y . . giving y=2 . . . put y=2 back in the substitution to get x=4. . . . please feel free to ask if something is not making sense :)

Thank you very much, I see what you're saying.
