Jessica has a compost pit in her garden. The pit is 8 feet long, 4 feet wide, and 2 feet deep. She plans to make it 1.5 feet deeper. What will be the increase in the volume of the pit? 24 cubic feet 32 cubic feet 48 cubic feet 12 cubic feet Could someone please explain this to me? So that in the future I can answer this myself... Thanks!(:

1. Find the current Volume of the pit \[V = length*width*depth\] 2. Find the desired Volume of the pit (when adding 1.5 to depth) Take the difference between those two values(subtract)

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

|dw:1353447625644:dw| Find the volume of the addition using the formula V = length x width x height where teh length and height are those of the original pit (8 ft and 4 ft), and the height is only the additional height, 1.5 ft. V = 8 ft x 4 ft x 1.5 ft = 48 cu ft

Thank you both sooooo much!!!
