Give an example of a relation that is NOT a function and explain why it is not a function.

OpenStudy (helder_edwin):

let A={a,b,c} and B={1,2,3} then {(a,1),(c,2)} is a relation that is not a function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dont understand

OpenStudy (helder_edwin):

what don't u understand?

OpenStudy (helder_edwin):

a relation from A to B is just a subset of the carthesian product of A and B

OpenStudy (helder_edwin):

a function from A to B is also a subset of the cartesian product of A and B (hence functions are relations) but with the aditional requierement that EVERY element of A is aisgned to some element of B.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i get it

OpenStudy (helder_edwin):

the example i gave u {(a,1),(c,2)} is not a function becuase. ..
