add 21.4+ (-23.9)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's -2.5 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do u do it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

take it like this, whe you have positive number but your adding it with a negative, the sign changes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your equation vertially turns into 21.4-23.9 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

virtually* sorry. It's as simple as that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so for example if i had 18.4 – (- 18.9) it would really be 18.9+18.4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, a double negative turns positive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does it work that way all the time even in multiplication?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

depends on the equation, however though lets say its the same problems but multiplication, (18.4(-18.9)) then this would become -347.76

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or if it was -18.4(-18.9) it would be 347.76

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if it is a neg times neg it is positive?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry studying for a final exam and the little stuff is getting me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, you are correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok I will keep trying

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's no problem glad to help :) the little stuff are always the things that will get you
