Given the vectors u = (5, 3) and v = (-1, 1), determine the quantity indicated below: -2u times 2v
I've been stuck on this question for two days, your help would be appreciated
what do you mean by u "times" v...there are several ways to multiply vectors. Dot product?
I mean multiply, sorry. And yes I've used the dot product but I keep getting the wrong answer
are you supposed to use the dot product on this one is my question?
I'm not sure, because the question doesn't clarify. I have my notes and example problems in front of me and none of them are set up or worded like this problem
Assuming multiply means take the dot product: \[-2 \vec{u}=<-10,-6>\]and\[2\vec{v}=<-2,2>\]Taking the dot product:\[<-10,-6>*<-2,2>=20-12=8\]
Oh, I see what I was doing wrong, I didn't subtract once I multiplied, thank you so much
no problem
