4x^7+8x^7?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

fixed it^

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You don't. Same BASE might be a different experience, but adding with only the same EXPONENT is not likely to be helpful.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it was 8x

@tkhunny

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would u solve this

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

It is geenrally NOT true that a^b + c^b = (a+c)^b. You are left only with factoring as much as possible. This also suggests the idea of "Like Terms". Like terms can be added or factored, as long as it is done correctly. Factoring 4x^7 + 8x^7 4(x^7 + 2x^7) 4x^7 * (1 + 2) 4x^7 * (2) 12x^7 Simply Addition, after identifying "Like Terms" as all those that contain x^7, it's just like counting anything else. 4 dogs + 8 dogs = 12 dogs 4 x^7 + 8 x^7 = 12 x^7
