y=-2/x Name the vertical asymptotes, if any Name the horizontal asymptotes, if any

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to find vertical asymptotes look at the denominator, set it equal to zero, and solve for x the solution will be your vertical asymptotes because the denominator will be 0 thus meaning it will be "undefined" or infinity

OpenStudy (anonymous):

huh? lol i really dont get that at all!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

denominator cannot be 0 what happens when you try dividing anything by 0?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what!!! haha dude no i srsly dont get this at all like im pure dumb when it comes to math.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i suggest you grab a calculator and try dividing a number by 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all i got was an error...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the "denominator" is the bottom part of the fraction the "numerator" is the top part of the fraction when dividing by 0 on a calculator, you will get a divide by zero error this is because there is no answer at that point or the solution is infinity and the calculator is unable to process infinity vertical asymptotes are when the denominator of the fraction is equal to 0 since the denominator is just "x" the the vertical asymptote would just be when x=0 because the denominator can by any number except for 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is x=0 for the vertical but what about the horizontal?
