OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the type of change in DNA's base sequence where only one base is affected? it is not mutation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You sure it's not mutation? When I looked at this question, right away I thought "point mutation." Are there any other options that you're thinking of?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not really. This paper is a crossword and the word is like p_i__ That's the only clue I know.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Point mutation. "Point"? Make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh! haha thank you. Can you also help me with RNA is a polymer of ____e_t_r_s?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its something molecule.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you sure there's a letter R in the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because DNA and RNA are both polymers of "nucleotides." It would fit, all except for the fact that there's an R in there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one of the questions says: the larger of Dna and rna and isn't it rna?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

DNA is larger. Here's DNA: http://blogs-images.forbes.com/daviddisalvo/files/2011/11/DNA.jpg You see how it's a double helix? And then here's RNA: http://www.biologycorner.com/resources/mRNA-colored.gif It's about half the size of DNA. It's not a double helix.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here's a better comparison picture for you: http://www.accessexcellence.org/RC/VL/GG/images/rna.gif

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh. i see... there's something i am confused with. name given a substance which can cause changes in DNA's base sequence. Isn't it mutation? but the word doesn't fit.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mutations are more like...events. They're not substances.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But the answer DOES have to do with mutations.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hm...it's hard(x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What you're talking about is a substance that can CAUSE a mutation. Any idea? Is there a powerpoint that goes with the chapter of your crossword puzzle? It'd probably be in there. You could look it over.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mutagen. Does it fit?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mutagens?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh. haha yeah(x i need help with onee last one. along with RNA, this makes up a whole ribosome.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol good job. Mutagen, mutagens, it depends on whether the crossword is looking for singular or plural.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know what ribosomes do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they help build protein.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep, exactly. They're made of RNA and proteins. Does "protein" or "proteins" fit?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh! yeah. thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure, no problem.
