OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which of the following is a subset of the set A: {integers divisible by 2 from 2 to 20} {24, 26, 28} {4, 6, 8, 10} {integers divisible by 4 from 2 to 40} {0, 2, 4, 6 …}

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what does it mean to be a subset?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not sure.:/

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

You know what a set is, right?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

A subset is some part of the set contained within it.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

can you numberfy the set: {integers divisible by 2 from 2 to 20} what are all the numbers that this rule would apply to?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry battery died. hmmm like (2,4,6...)?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

correct, except the ... is bad notation since it suggests that there is no end to the set, and we know the set is finite; from 2 to 24 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (amistre64):

err, 2 to 20

OpenStudy (amistre64):

so, now that we are back up and running ... which set contains some (or all) of the same numbers?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

{24, 26, 28} ; these are not between 2 and 20 {4, 6, 8, 10} ; these look good {integers divisible by 4 from 2 to 40} ; this has values larger then 20 in it (up to 40) {0, 2, 4, 6 …} ; this has a zero, and goes on forever, so it has values that are not in the defined set as well
