How many different phenotypes are possible in the offspring of two parents with genotypes AA and aa, where A is the dominant allele for a trait and a is the recessive allele for the same trait? (1 point) one two three four
The "phenotype" of an organism is basically a trait that we can see, or observe. In other words, we can think of it as the way that something looks. For example: Tall or short, Red or white, Rough or smooth You get it? ~~~~~~~ So, to solve this problem, let's pretend that capital A means tall, and lowercase a means short. And here's the question: How many phenotypes can there be? How many kinds of "looks" can there be?
ohh so there would be two "looks" (phenotypes)? tall and short (= thank you so much for your help!
Yep! You're welcome.
Hold on a minute here.
|dw:1354763256054:dw| I just took a closer look, and I noticed that one of the parents' genotype is (A A). That's two capital A's. And in any genotype, the capital letter always matters more than the lowercase letter. That means that is A stands for Tall, then any offspring with a capital A in its genotype will be Tall. If the parents are (A A) and (a a), then all of their offspring will be (A a), you see there? And that means they'll all be Tall. So there is only ONE look. ONE phenotype. I'm sorry for have misled you. I didn't pay close enough attention to the parents' genotypes.
And I'm sorry for the terrible grammatical typos in there, too.
I have been so confused about genotypes and phenotypes this cleared everything up =) thank you so much!
Yeah no problem. Genotype is the group of letters. Phenotype is the look.
