2x + sqrt{x+23}=9

OpenStudy (jennychan12):

move the 2x over, then square both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jennychan12 what answer do you get? i keep doing that but get the problem wrong

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Show your work! "Answers" are of far less value than "Work".

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Showing me the work would be very helpful!

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

There it is!! Where did you get the "rad" on the right hand side? Please discard it.

OpenStudy (jennychan12):

rad(x+23) = (9-2x) x-23 = (9-2x)^2 solve from there?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Indeed. So, now answer my question. Where did you get the one on the right hand side of the equation? There wasn't one before. Why did you decide to put one there? There was one on the left hand side. That one is good.

OpenStudy (jennychan12):

you move the 2x to the other side?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Okay, then this should work, right? 2x + 5 = 12 Move 2x to the other side. 5 = rad(12 - 2x)
