Solve the following inequality: -4y + 5 ≥ 17 *would the answer be y ≤ -3 or y ≥ -3? because im not sure

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

just treat it like an equality and isolate the y -4y + 5 = 17 Remember when you multiply or divide both sides by a negative you have to flip the inequality

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

Show me your work and I can tell you if you are on the right track

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

at the step -4y ≥ 12 -4y/4 ≥ 12/4 -y ≥ 3 when you divide or multiply by a negative you always flip the inequality -y/-1 ≤ 3/-1 y ≤ -3

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

hope that helps, just a rule you have to remember

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I subtracted 5 from both sides, simplifeid, then divided both sides by -4.
