Which of the following is an equivalent form of the compound inequality −22 > −5x − 7 greater than or equal to −3? −5x − 7 < −22 and −5x − 7 greater than or equal to −3 −5x − 7 > −22 and −5x − 7 greater than or equal to −3 −5x > −22 and −7 greater than or equal to −3 −5x − 7 < −22 and −5x − 7 less than or greater to −3
A compound inequality has two parts... with the common portion in the middle. Here, the middle portion is (-5x - 7): −22 > (−5x − 7) greater than or equal to −3 Part 1: −22 > −5x − 7 Part 2: -5x - 7 greater than or equal to −3
So, you just carefully compare each answer choice to make sure everything matches up to those two parts.
wouldn't iht D then?
The second half of D makes it wrong... here's why. "−5x − 7 less than or greater to −3 " -5x - 7 isn't supposed to be "less than or greater to..." -3. The original problem said that -5x - 7 was "greater than or equal to −3" Similar words, but different.
Take a look at A, and compare each part to the original question.
It looks to me like the statement in answer A is the same as in the problem, although I didn't want to rush it :) The wording on these is confusing on purpose, and it's easy to misread an answer and miss the question.
OK I GET IT NOW THANX!
you're welcome :) Glad to help :)
