how do you do fraction division

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you have a problem so I could solve and explain?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here, I'll give you an example: \[\frac{ 4 }{ 3 }\div \frac{ 5 }{ 6 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you have to multiply by the reciprocal of the second fraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 4 }{ 3 }\times \frac{ 6 }{ 5 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So now multiply

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 24 }{ 15 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

simplify: \[\frac{ 8 }{ 5 }\]

OpenStudy (agentjamesbond007):

Fractions are division. Division of division is multiplication. Multiple by the inverse of the second fraction.

You " flip " the fraction you are dividing by, then you just multiply. Example : 2/3 divided by 3/5 = 2/3 x 5/3 = 10/9. You see how I " flipped " the 3/5 and turned it to 5/3. It is that easy. Just make sure that the number you flip is the one you are dividing by. Here is more examples ... 8 divided by 1/4 = 8/1 x 4/1 = 32 1/4 divided by 8 = 1/4 x 1/8 = 1/32 5/6 divided by 4/5 = 5/6 x 5/4 = 25/24 I hope I made this easy for you to understand :)
