Use the map on confirmed cases of H1N1 below to answer the following question: What might account for the fact that developed countries were more affected than developing countries during the H1N1 pandemic? A People in developed countries tend to use more antibiotics. B Developing countries were avoiding consuming contaminated food. C People in developed countries travel more and exposed more people to H1N1. D Developing countries were able to use large armies to prevent exposure. I think the answer is C am i correct?

Yes, I would say C is the best of the answers you're offered. But the real answer is almost certainly that the premise of the question is false: people in poor and badly-run ("developing") countries WERE more affected than those in wealthy and well-run ("developed") countries. But think about this: if Joe gets sick in a poor country and Jane in a wealthy country... (1) Which is more likely to know a competent doctor, trained in modern medicine, reachable by convenient transportation? (2) Which is more likely to be able to pay for that doctor's services? (3) So which is more likely to go? (4) Which doctor is more likely to be competent to diagnose the H1N1 strain of influenza correctly? (5) Which doctor will have access to some well-run system that collects statistics on how many citizens are affected by H1N1, and will report the case, so that the statistics are collected accurately? (6) Which country is less likely to lie about the quality of its healthcare system, and report accurately statistics on influenza deaths? This problem happens all the time. In the early years of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, you'd think the only country that was affected was the United States, even though it had originated in sub-Saharan Africa -- because those countries reported hardly any AIDS deaths. (They had a lot of deaths from malnutrition or odd cancers or just wasting away, but of course those were not of interest -- just a result of poverty -- nothing to see here, move along!) Similarly, in the modern era poorer and more poorly-run nations routinely lie about infant mortality statistics to international groups, because they want to appear like they're taking care of public health better than they do.

Thanks so much :)

C) People in developed countries travel more and exposed more people to H1N1, is correct.
