OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do you subtract improper fractions? (If you can try to use the example 2/3 - 3/7)

hero (hero):

Those are not 'improper' fractions

OpenStudy (joel_atkins):

You have to change them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sorry wait

OpenStudy (joel_atkins):

So 3/7, it has to be the same time of number, so turn it into 9/21.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3/2 - 3/7

OpenStudy (joel_atkins):

14/21 - 9/21

OpenStudy (joel_atkins):

Makes things easier?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

same time of number?

OpenStudy (joel_atkins):

Bad wording, the last number has to be the same as the other, so you multiply or halve until it works out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do u mind if i repost this question?

OpenStudy (joel_atkins):

The answer is 5/21..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ill let u finish thouugh

hero (hero):

1 1/2 - 3/7 1 7/14 - 6/14 1 1/14

OpenStudy (joel_atkins):

It's not 1/2 - 3/7, it's 2/3 to 3/7 hero.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y is it 11/2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im gonna repost so get ready to copy and paste

hero (hero):

@Joel_Atkins. He said he made a mistake. If you were paying attention to the conversation. He re-posted the question as 3/2 - 3/7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry

OpenStudy (joel_atkins):

Ohh.. I didn't acknowledge. Even he was confused with 1 1/2..

OpenStudy (joel_atkins):

Okay, makes sence..

hero (hero):

No, he wasn't bro. He was simply asking why it was 1 and 1/2

hero (hero):

It is 1 and 1/2 because 3/2 = 1 1/2 1 x 2 + 1 = 3

OpenStudy (joel_atkins):

When you wrote that I was looking at it differently, it's okay.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i reposted but i guess u guys can still reply here

hero (hero):

The solution has already been posted @nonamejim

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ill check over it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

gah. sorry, i still don't get it. Are you using mixed numbers?

hero (hero):

Yes bro.
