When writing a paper that uses peer-reviewed journal articles that will be published in the future (say February 2013) but that have already been e-published (say November 2012), is it better to say, "A study to be published in February 2013..." or "A study that was electronically published in November 2012..." in the text of the paper? I have to follow this format, so I have to choose one of these two options. Also, how do you find the e-publication date if it is not listed on the article? I know it was e-published because I can access it, and it says copyright 2012, but the journal publicati

Generally go with which publication it is from (ie. the year that the issue that it is in was published in) - urgh, hope that makes sense

Hmm no, I would usually try to find the journal online and see when it was published but it can be tricky for some journals.
