Solve. The French Club is sponsoring a bake sale. If their goal is to raise at least $140.00, how many pastries must they sell at $3.50 each to meet that goal? Write and solve an inequality. A. 3.50p ≥ 140; p ≥ 490 B. 140p ≥ 3.50; p ≥ 40 C. 3.50p ≥ 140; p ≥ 136.5 D. 3.50p ≥ 140; p ≥ 40 Please Help!

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

so you need to sell $140.00 worth of pastries you know that they sell them at 3.50 each Can you write an expression (an equality) to figure out how many of these pastries need to be sold to achieve the $140.00? (Hint: it is given in the answer just use an equal sign instead)

I really don't get these so if you ask me to try I literally can't lol

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

This is very basic multiplication Can you solve this and write it as an expression? if you sold 3 sodas and each soda cost $3 how much money would you have spent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9?

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

Can you write that as an expression?

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

I'm not trying to make you do busy work, I'm simply trying to help you see how to answer this problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9 = 3(3)

@terminallychill I heartily agree with @Australopithecus, you should understand the basic concept, in order to apply into your real life :)

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

right now notice that this problem parallels your own you, you have a constant 3 and a value that can change (the amount of sodas you bought) and the amount of money you spent so, x(3$) = y where x is the amount of sodas you bought, and y is the amount of money you spent. You should be able to draw a parallel between this expression and the problem you are trying to solve. Write an expression similar to this and use basic algebra to solve, I will explain inequalities after.

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

x and y are variables are simply place holders for numbers. The amount of sodas you buy and the amount of money you spend can vary. Thus, we use variables to express numbers that are not specific. We make x = the number of sodas and y = the amount of money spent on sodas Thus this expression is useful for finding the amount of sodas we can buy and for determining the amount of sodas we can buy with a specific amount of cash
