OpenStudy (anonymous):

suppose you have unknown chemical reaction involving carbohydrates. What is one way to test whether the reaction is dehydration synthesis or hydrolysis reaction? A. check the types of carbon bonds used B. determine whether water is formed C. note whether there is branching in the glucose chains D. examine the number of hydrogen bonds

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B. A dehydration synthesis reaction will form \(H_2O\).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you ,but is that accurate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Think about it. A dehydration reaction will produce \(H_2O\), while a hydrolysis reaction will consume \(H_2O\).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, your right thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Loss of electon oxidation, gain of electrons reduction. Oxidation is dehydration sythesis and reduction is hydrolysis. Just see the amount of polar bonds, usually H on the molecules
