QUESTION!! HELP PLEASE Can a translation be moved in any direction w/o changing it's orientation?

@ash2326

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Define: translation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

umm i kinda of forgot but its has to do with some tesellation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i think yes it can change the orientation because however you move, i guess it changes

OpenStudy (compassionate):

A third type of symmetry is translation. Translating an object means moving it without rotating or reflecting it. You can describe a translation by stating how far it moves an object, and in what direction. The answer is, "no."

OpenStudy (compassionate):

You'd be surprised what Google can do for you, ya' know?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol true and oh ok i see why now but can i ask you another?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Go ahead, I'm here all day just sittin'; wastin' time.

- Reflectional: can it be reflected, over which axis?, w/o changing it's direction/orientation?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

To reflect an object means to produce its mirror image. Every reflection has a mirror line. A reflection of an "R" is a backwards "R" Over the x-axis.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so that would change its direction and orientation right?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

If it was reflected over the x-axis, it's direction would not change.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont get it, which one is it, like change or not

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and it didn't say which axis it was over so im confused

OpenStudy (compassionate):

It was reflecting over the x-axis on the picture. From that you can conclude that reflections are on x-axis because it was demonstrated that way.

OpenStudy (compassionate):

I don't know much about this, so you're really on your own. I suggest opening your text book. Chow.

Translations just move the graph up/down or left/right. So the orientation shouldn't change. Example:|dw:1356281020892:dw|
