Explain how to graph x – 2y = 4 using the x- and y-intercepts method. Be sure to use complete sentences and use the x- and y-intercepts method only.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The x-intercept is where the line crosses the x-axis. As with every point on the x-axis, the y-coordinate of the x-intercept is zero. The y-intercept is where the line crosses the y-axis. As with every point on the y-axis, the x-coordinate of the y-intercept is zero. This means you want the coordinates of two points. One has 0 for the y-coordinate. The other one has 0 for the x-coordinate. The way to get these two points is to first enter a zero for y in your equation and solving for x. That gives you the x-intercept. Then let x = 0 in your equation, and solve for y. That gives you the y-intercept. Then plot those two points on the coordinate plane, connect them with a segment, and extend the segement in both directions.

thanks it was helpful

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

That's how you do it. Now you need to actually do it. x - 2y = 4 First, let y = 0 and solve for x.
