This trinomial can't be factored because it is prime right? x^2 + 5x - 66

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No it can be factored..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

11 and -6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2 + 5x - 66 x^2 11x - 6x - 66 solve further

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so you subtract -6 from 11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do u know the process of factorisation???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here the x^2 term has coefficient 1, so we look at the last constant which is -66 we then try to find two factors of -66 such that their product is -66 but sum is 11 (i.e. coefficient of x term) now -66 can have various factor combinations -1 x 66 or 1 x -66 -2 x 33 or 2 x -33 -3 x 22 or 3 x -22 etc. one of these combinations is 11 x -6 we choose this because 11 x -6 = -66 and 11 + (-6) = 5 which is the coefficient of the x term
