how antibodies create immunity?
Antibodies are proteins that are made by our white blood cells. Their job is to recognize, and attach themselves onto pathogens. Pathogens are small agents that cause disease, like viruses and bacteria. Once your body has been infected with a pathogen, like a virus, your antibodies learn to recognize what that virus looks like. So whenever your body becomes infected with the same kind of virus as before, the antibodies recognize the virus, and they attach themselves to the virus. After the antibodies attach themselves to the pathogens, the white blood cells know that they need to destroy THAT pathogen. So, antibodies are like....stickers. They stick onto pathogens. Bad things, inside our bodies. And anything with a sticker on it gets destroyed by white blood cells. You see?
