What is the value of 15- (6to the second power- 5 to the second power)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How old are you then

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[ 15 -(6^2-5^2) \]This?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know the order of operations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you do that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, what is the first operation we do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uh we do Parentheses()

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but how do you do that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i mean the to the power thing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. So we want to do \[ 6^2-5^2 \]First. What is the next operation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know how to do exponents/powers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, so what is \(6^2\)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

36

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[ 36 - 5^2 \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i mean how do you do 6 to the second power

OpenStudy (anonymous):

36 - 25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, can you subtract them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I figured you can, I'm just asking you to tell me the result.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and the final response is 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Karmel I think you should try them on your own a bit. Just remember the order of operations: P/B: Parenthesis, Brackets, Braces E: Exponents, Powers MD: Multiplication, Division AS: Addition, Subtraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes not all of them are the same just so you know but thank you for your help i want to get 100 on this packet so no mistakes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@wio what was the point of @Karmel
