i'm in 7th grade, and in algebra 1.1 i need to understand how to to find the x-intercept and y-intercept out of equations like this: 3x-3y=9

OpenStudy (hba):

For x-intercept y=0 For y-intercept x=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i need to understand how to do it because i have to show my work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The x intercept is any point that is ON the x axis.

OpenStudy (hba):

Yes put y=0 and get x-intercept

OpenStudy (hba):

Put x=0 and get y-intercept.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To be ON the x axis, every variable other than x must be 0.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In this case, the only other variable is y.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't need to graph it just find out the x and y-intercepts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Who said anything about graphing?

OpenStudy (hba):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well someone said "To be ON the x axis, every variable other than x must be 0."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That doesn't mean you have to graph it. It just means you need to be able to visualize the graph to understand what the x intercept IS.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The concept of the x intercept exists because of graphing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i literally need step by step directions on how to solve the problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1357076129914:dw| These are all x intercepts. Notice that in every case, y = 0. This is why @hba 's method works.
