***Help Request*** ***Medal &/or Fan Awarded to best helper*** Use two variables. One number is 4 less than 3 times another number. If their sum is 16, find the numbers.
Let the 2 numbers be 'x' and 'y' . heir sum is 16----> x+y=16 got this ?
One number is 4 less than 3 times another number. --->x+4=3y
@minnie123 you there ?
yeah i am trying to comprehend what you're asking me to do... a little confused
did u get how i got the 2 equations ?? x+y=16 x+4=3y ??
Let the first no. be \(x\) & other be \(y\). Now, according to question:- x+y=16 ....... (i) also y=3x-4 Now put the value of 'y' in first equation & you got :- x+3x-4=16 4x-4=16 Take 4 as common :- 4(x-4)=16 x-4=16/4=4 x=8 Therefore y=8 because x+y=16 8+y=16 y=16-8=8
ok so i kinda understand Viper because he visually showed me... i wont understand easily unlessi have it kinda mapped out already..
will you be able to do other similar question by yourself ???
idk... maybe...
