Why does coconut water taste sweet? (apparently it has something to do with cohesive forces.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the water comes due to cohesive force but about the sweetness i'm still confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Coconut water gives your body the following: water potassium vitamin C magnesium calcium sodium Vitamin A phosphorous chloride nitrogen amino acids folic acid partothenic acid bioten riboflavin natural sugar maybe its sugar which gives sweet taste

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cohesion is the intermolecular attraction between like molecules..ADHESION on the other hand is the attractions between UNLIKE molecules. Since we both know that a coconut is composed of water (POLAR) encased in a shell of coconut meat (high in oils etc which thus makes the majority of it NONPOLAR), a wetting agent that could have been injected into the palm trees (might not be allowed in some countries) can be added, thus resulting in the reduction of surface tension in a liquid and making it more effective in spreading over and penetrating surfaces (coconut meat). Liquids with low surface tensions have weak cohesion forces, and they are good wetting agents due to high adhesion forces. The removal of these nutrients (from the coconut water) decreases surface tension, thus decreasing viscosity of the coconut water. ...OR I could be overcomplicating the answer which could have just been, sugars are also POLAR molecules which make the COHESIVE to the coconut water which is ALSO POLAR. P.S. I'm not a coconut expert but this is just depending on my understanding of the liquid state... Also I might have mixed up a few concepts as I was writing this... Apologies in advance if I have done so
