Solving quadratic equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey I'm stuck on this too. Whatcha got?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes... understood. Do you have a particular equation to solve?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solve for x: 2x2 - 4x - 14 = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Use the quadratic formula.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[ x = \frac{-b\pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a} \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah wio has the right formula there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just plug it in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok.i think ive seen that before..but how?

OpenStudy (homeworksucks):

a is the first coefficient and b is the second coefficient ( the number before the variable) and c is the constant (number alone)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a= 2 b= -4 c= -14 plug those into the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. sorry im a little slow...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here's a sample from my textbook that may help. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is not making sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm, where are you stuck?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would you like more examples? Like an example fo ryour prob then just have you solve it??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is so stressful..unbelieveable

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if i can solve it...but ive been trying to for like 20 mins alrready

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay hold on just for asecond
