Factor: 2y^4-6y^3-8y^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you see any factors that you can bring out front? Factors that are common to 2y^4, -6y^3 and -8y^2 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah 2y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2 (y-4) y^2 (y+1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree, 2y can be brought out. What does it look like factored with 2y in the front ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Factoring out \(2y\) leaves you with \((2y)(y^3-3y^2-4y)\). It can still be factored more.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay how do you factor further?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Perhaps another y can be factored? This would leave 2y^2 in the front
